Geospatial Data Scientist

**Mercury Insurance** is hiring a **Geospatial Data Scientist** to join its collaborative and innovative data science team. This fully remote role involves analyzing geospatial datasets to improve catastrophe modeling, risk assessment, and underwriting analytics for the insurance and reinsurance industry.

**Salary Range:** \$86,110 – \$199,452/year (based on experience and location)
**Location:** Remote – USA
**Work Type:** Full-Time

**Key Responsibilities:**
- Design and maintain automated **geospatial data pipelines** using Python (GeoPandas, Rasterio, etc.).
- Ingest, validate, and transform vector, raster, and point cloud data into analysis-ready assets.
- Apply advanced **spatial statistical models**, clustering, and spatiotemporal mining techniques.
- Create engaging spatial dashboards using **Kepler.gl**, **Hex**, **ArcGIS**, or similar tools.
- Collaborate with scientists, engineers, and business stakeholders to define requirements and build the geospatial data library.
- Support catastrophe loss estimation, exposure modeling, and risk factor integration.

**Minimum Qualifications:**
- Bachelor's or Master’s degree in Geography, Data Science, Computer Science, or a related field.
- 3+ years of experience in GIS and machine learning projects.
- Proficiency with **Python**, geospatial libraries, and GIS platforms like **ArcGIS Pro**, **QGIS**, or **Carto**.
- Strong communication skills and problem-solving mindset.

**Preferred Experience:**
- Knowledge of catastrophe risk metrics (EP, TVaR, AAL).
- Familiarity with modeling platforms like **RMS**, **Verisk Touchstone**, or **Moody’s**.
- Background in insurance or reinsurance data analytics.
