The **City of Decatur** is hiring a **GIS Specialist** to support public infrastructure, utilities, and citywide planning through mapping, analysis, and field data integration. Work closely with engineers and technical staff in a highly collaborative and innovation-driven environment.
**Location:** #1 Gary K Anderson Plaza, Decatur, IL
**Job Type:** Full Time – Benefited
**Salary Range:** \$50,000 – \$68,000 annually
**Residency Requirement:** Must live within 50 miles of city limits (12 months to comply)
**Core Responsibilities:**
- Maintain, correct, and update geospatial data for city assets and underground utilities.
- Collect and integrate field data using Trimble/Leica GPS into the City’s GIS database.
- Conduct spatial analysis and ensure QA/QC in map deliverables.
- Create utility maps, topographic layouts, and thematic layers from as-built records.
- Apply best practices in cartography, linear referencing, and geodatabase structuring.
- Assist in software integration and support for third-party GIS-related systems.
**Required Skills & Experience:**
- Bachelor’s degree in GIS, Geography, or related field.
- 2+ years of experience or graduate-level GIS project work.
- Proficiency with ArcGIS (FieldMaps, Survey123, Pro).
- Experience with GPS, geodatabase design (domains, subtypes, relationships).
- Working knowledge of AutoCAD and remote sensing.
- Strong project planning and team communication skills.
**Bonus:**
- Experience in utility/infrastructure environments.
- LIDAR familiarity and metadata documentation.
- GIS certification or professional credentialing.
